THE NH SIERRA CLUB PARTICIPATES IN MANCHESTER'S 2007 EARTH DAY PROGRAM
On April 21, 2007, Manchester held its annual Earth Day program. As in 2006, the program was organized by the Student Conservation Association, but the NH Sierra Club's "Cool Cities" committee played a large part in the 2007 arrangements and generated considerable public awareness of the group's progress so far, as well as its plans for the future.
The event took place in near-perfect Spring weather and as seen in the photograph above was very well attended by members of the public. A wide variety of information was available at the various tables set up for the occasion. Each table was manned by representatives of various environmental organizations that participated in the event.
Music for the event was furnished by the group "Jangle" (above left) and the featured speaker for the event was Jan Pendlebury (above right) who is director of the New Hampshire chapter of the National Environmental Trust and heads up the organization's New Hampshire Global Warming Campaign.
Members of the Sierra Club's "Cool Cities" program set up several tables and, as shown below, presented verbal and written explanations of their gtointerested onlookers
Finally, a unique approach was demonstrated by Sierra Club member Rick Glantz and friend who made good use of a Carbon Coalition poster. Hopefully they succesfully alterted the public to a major global warming effect that could substantially harm New Hampshire's economy.
